Paul has written a book of poetry entitled Reasons Like Birds which is currently in submission to publishers. Poems from this book have been published many journals, including Prairie Schooner, William and Mary Review, and Portland Review.
The just-completed novel, currently titled Why Things Are the Way They Are, tells the story of one of the minor characters--mentioned only briefly in More Like Not Running Away, Harlan Lee Pendergraft, and takes place during World War II. Readers of More Like Not Running Away will recognize Everest, who in this new novel is fourteen years old and--yes--accused of causing a man's death.
The next novel planned for completion (mostly written, but a couple of years from finished) is On Anegada, which takes place on the British Virgin Island of Anegada. And that's all we know about that!
Two other projects, both non-fiction, are in the works. The first is co-authored with wife, Lois Shepherd, a professor of law and medicine at the Florida State University College of Law. This book looks at the case of conjoined twins who were separated against the wishes of their parents--resulting in the death of one of the twins. The other, a proposal out right now, is for a book entitled Dear Max: Thirty Things I Think You Should Know Before You Go. It's a father giving, well, fatherly advice to his teen son--on things he might have missed: how to back up a trailer; how to end a date; and why saving someone's life is a skill that just might make him a more confident man.
